Fabric Information

Fabric and Mill Information - Frequently Asked Questions

  • Question: Where do you get your mohair?
Answer: We are the only mohair importer in North America to offer mohairs and alpacas from both England and Germany. The depth of our selection is therefore unmatchable.

  • Question: Are swatches really necessary?
Answer: Yes...they are definitely a good idea! If you are an occasional bear maker and do not want to invest in swatches, we can offer you a couple of alternatives. Simply reading the various quality descriptions should give you an idea of what is available including pile lengths and densities, but...we also offer a number of color scans and snapshots of fabric choices in our web catalog (for an index please click "here"). You are also invited to discuss your fabric needs with Carole or Johnna, the two professionals manning our order desk. Call toll free (U.S. only): 877-910-5400. Both have years of experience in guiding all customers with their fabric needs.

  • Question: How many major mohair mills are left in the world?
Answer: There are only three major mohair mills left in the world. We are proud to say that we are the exclusive North American importer for two of them; Norton (Weaving) Ltd., England's only mohair mill, and Messrs. A. Helmbold GmbH, our exclusive German weavers.

  • Question: Your selection is overwhelming. Where do I start?
Answer: Yes...it is! If you are a "beginner" stick with the basics. Our color scans cover most basic colors (for an index of all color scans click "Here"). The same color scans can also be found throughout the Web Catalog. For pile lengths and densities please read the quality descriptions. Our list of "End Pieces" is very unique and used by both beginners and professional teddy bear artists alike. Professional artists should not miss the "New Arrivals" list. This is where we list our new innovations. The "Web Catalog" is a complete, updated listing of all our color and quality combinations from both England and Germany plus our glass eyes and other supplies.

  • Question: Are certain mohair fabrics and backings better than others.
Answer: No. They all have their own characteristics. If they were all made the same way they would look the same! A fair amount of misinformation has been issued on this subject. All mohair fabrics are wonderful, and the differences are a matter of personal preference.

  • Question: Is there any difference in the fabrics you get from the various mills?
Answer: Oh yes...and thank heaven for that! Wouldn't it be boring to always look at the same colors and the same fabrics. As exclusive importer of Norton and Helmbold fabrics we offer an unbeatable selection of new and interesting fabric selections.

Pricing and Catalog Information - Frequently Asked Questions

  • Question: Do I have to purchase 20 yards to get the "20 yard price"?
Answer: No. As long as you purchase a single, full yard of any Helmbold or Norton fabric you will receive our "20 yard price", which is our lowest everyday price.

  • Question: Other suppliers offer 50% off selected items. What is your percentage off?
Answer: What you many times see is 50% off RETAIL. Make sure you compare apples to apples before you buy. It can make a major difference! We offer wholesale prices and only list suggested retail on request. You ALWAYS get MINIMUM 50% OFF our suggested retail when you purchase ANY full yard of fur. That's simply automatic! Much more than 50% off suggested retail is available if you follow our Special Promotions. For your easy reference, our '20 yard pricing' equals 50% off suggested retail.

  • Question: How do I purchase cuts of less than 1 yard?
Answer: For cuts of less than one yard, we strongly suggest using our list of "End Pieces", which features an extensive selection of reasonably priced small cuts. Our other Specials also offer smaller cuts at or near the "20 yard price" level (for an index to ALL our Specials click "Here"). ALL our colors and qualities are available as small cuts but at a slightly higher price. The Shopping Cart cannot calculate these prices. For help please call us on our toll free phone (U.S. only): 877-910-5400.

  • Question: Is your pricing wholesale?
Answer: Yes, all our fabric prices are wholesale...and available to the entire teddy bear community.

  • Question: Do you have lower prices than regular wholesale?
Answer: Yes. We suggest watching our Specials for Promotional Prices. Many shops and resellers are successfully using the Specials to obtain very advantageous pricing. You are invited to do the same. If you want to be notified of new arrivals and other news by e-mail, please click on specials@intercaltg.com and send to us.

  • Question: Do you substitute colors without asking?
Answer: No. We believe some of our competitors do that, but we do not. If we are out of stock of a particular color we will contact you. Our order desk is manned by two professionals, Carole and Johnna, who have years of experience in guiding customers with their purchases. If our large selection of fabric choices on our Web Catalog intimidates you, we have a solution for that. Talk to Carole or Johnna.....toll free (U.S.only) at 877-910-5400.

  • Question: I don't like to use my credit card on the Internet?
Answer: Our Shopping Cart is 'secure'. Beginning with the page where you are asked to leave your credit card information, all information is encrypted and transmitted to us in that form. The information remains encrypted until you have completed Check Out. Please feel free to check our certification. We would also like to point out that we do not store any credit card information on our computer.

  • Question: I'm new to mohair. Where do I start?
Answer: Much depends on your sewing skills and your level of teddy bear making knowledge. Attending a teddy bear making class is always a good idea. Call your local teddy bear store to see if the store offers classes. Surfing our MoBear Store and its offering of patterns and kits is also a good idea. If you have made your first teddy bear there is no question in our mind...visit our list of "End Pieces"! Here you will find a wonderful selection of mohair and alpaca fabrics at reasonable prices suitable for large and small bears. A pattern can be used over and over. Selecting a new and different fabric will give it new life, and...our list of "End Pieces" is perfect for this purpose.

  • Question: Why all the "numbers"?
Answer: We offer so many quality and color combinations that we would be totally lost without a numbering system. Realizing that some customers, and potential customers in particular, may not be familiar with our numbering system, we try very hard to give a written description (or a scan) of a particular color and/or quality on all our pages.

  • Question: Do I need a resale certificate?
Answer: If you are a California resident and have a resale number, you must submit a resale certificate to be exempt from sales taxes. California residents with no resale number will be charged sales tax. If you live outside California you do not need to submit a resale number and no sales tax will be charged....as long as we ship to an address outside California.

  • Question: Is a printed catalog available?
Answer: Yes. Please mail 5 first class stamps to the address below if you live in the U.S. If you live outside the U.S., we strongly suggest that you use our web site and the web catalog in particular. We can keep the web site much more updated than anything we offer in print.

  • Question: Why do you ship by UPS?
Answer: All our domestic orders are shipped by UPS. Shipping by USPS requires a trip to the post office, which is time consuming. If requested, we will ship orders to Alaska and Hawaii by USPS as there is a major difference in cost to the customer.

  • Question: Why do you use the the Postal Service for Canadian and International orders?
Answer: We use the Post Office for Canadian and International orders...simply because this is a less expensive method for our customers. We are occasionally asked to ship Canadian orders by UPS or FedEx. This is normally an expensive option. Many customers only look at the freight rate, but forget to consider the fees that the carrier is likely to add at the arrival destination.
